Our history
After a detailed work planning , the first Col Raiser ascent installation was built in the year 1963 under the direction of the mountain guide and still today's president Mr. Luis Schenk from S. Cristina/Gardena. In 1976 the lift was already renovated and raised to higher power. At that time this ascent installation was ultra-modern and was composed of so called "ferric cable-cars" or "barrels". The speed amounted to 1, 60 m / sec. and in the year 1976 already to 2, 20 m/sec. At that time the users were exposed for 20 minutes to every kind of weather conditions.
In 1988 these cable-cars were outdated and became totally restructured to a modern cable railway under the direction of Mr. Schenk again.
Formidable was the idea of Mr. Schenk to build the station at the summit in subterranean position, which is a positive solution for the environment.
This new cable railway with 8 seats cabins was Europe's first in its kind. The installation was built under very severe security precautions, for example with double cleats.
As according to the South Tyrolean laws a general revision has to be done every 20 years, the decision was taken to rebuild the cable railway in next spring 2008 again.
At the beginning of July 2008 we will open again and offer you the most modern technique combined with the newest and very comfortable cabins.
